Dr. Jerry Robben
Dr. Jerry Robben grew up in Sharon Springs, Kansas. There he learned a strong work ethic, growing up working on the Robben Family Farm. He attended Kansas State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. He went on to attend graduate school at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he received a second Bachelor Degree in Vision Science and his Doctorate of Optometry.
During his externships, Dr. Robben had extensive training in binocular vision disorders and vision therapy. He also focused on pediatric care, contact lenses, low vision, and ocular disease.
After his graduation he was recruited by a private ophthalmology practice in South Florida where he continued his training in ocular disease as the clinical supervisor of the practice and was in charge of their large student doctor externship program.
Dr. Robben came to Bowden Eye & Associates to expand his scope of practice in ocular disease; specifically, glaucoma, ocular surface disease, eye infections, and primary eye care including glasses and contacts. He loves to continue to learn from Dr. Frank W. Bowden, III, and Dr. Sarah Darbandi as the technologies and knowledge in eye care continues to advance. Dr. Robben is the Chief Optometrist at Bowden Eye.
Having a background in clinical education, Dr. Robben has started a student doctor externship program here at Bowden Eye. He is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor for the Arizona College of Optometry where he supervises the 4th Year Optometry Resident Doctors that are currently completing their externships for graduation at Midwestern University-Arizona, College of Optometry.
Clinical research is another interest of Dr. Robben’s that he has brought to Bowden Eye. He is currently our Director of Clinical Research and oversees the scientific studies and publications being worked on by our research team. Bowden Eye takes part in large scientific studies with some of the industry’s leading companies, as well as doing private research of our own. Dr. Robben has become a leader in the treatment and management of Dry Eye Disease and has been recognized as a national speaker and educator on the subject. He frequently speaks in educational settings for optometrists, technicians and ophthalmologists all across the country.
In his spare time, he enjoys watching football, being a Dad and traveling with his family. Dr. Robben is proud to make Jacksonville his home and loves to build lasting relationships with his patients in the community.
