LASIK Surgery Day

At Bowden Eye & Associates we are as excited about your LASIK surgery day as you are! We are just as anxious to see the look of excitement on your face as you start to realize clearer vision after the procedure. We also understand that you might be a bit anxious about the process. We can offer relaxation medication prior to your procedure to provide a calming effect as you remain awake during the treatment.

Amazingly, the actual LASIK procedure only takes around 10 minutes per eye. When you arrive at our office, we will have you complete last-minute paperwork and give you time to relax before the procedure. When the time comes, we will take you to our comfortable LASIK suite. Numbing anesthetic eye drops will be placed into your eyes so you won’t feel the lasers doing their work.

  • Frank W. Bowden, III, will create a thin flap on your cornea using the Intralase femtosecond laser. This is the bladeless, iLASIK part of the procedure.
  • The corneal flap is folded back so the underlying corneal tissue can be reshaped.
  • Frank W. Bowden, III, then uses the VISX excimer laser to remove miniscule amounts of corneal tissue to correct your unique refractive error. If your eyes move involuntarily, the system is equipped with amazing eye tracking technology; the laser will stop until the eye is in perfect position again.
  • The flap is folded back into its original position where it begins to heal immediately.

After a short rest and one final vision check by Dr. Frank W. Bowden, III, you can have your friend or family member drive you home. Plan to take the rest of the day off from work or other activities so your eye can heal. Most patients wake up the next day with clearer vision – something they may have not experienced for years, if ever!

Possible Post-LASIK Discomforts

After surgery, be cautious about rubbing your eyes as this may lead to infection or damage of your corneal flap. Some patients experience temporary discomforts after the procedure such as:

  • Mild pain
  • Itching or burning
  • Hazy vision
  • Watering
  • Light sensitivity
  • Dry eyes
